Conditions We See

Here are some of the common childhood conditions which chiropractic can address:

  • Bedwetting
  • Breastfeeding difficulties
  • Colic
  • Digestion problems
  • Ear infections
  • Sleep problems
  • Torticollis
  • Growing pains
  • Sports injuries
  • Scoliosis

What to Expect

You can download paperwork from our website and complete it before your child’s appointment or in the office. We will go over the intake form and get a health history, including how your child was born. Then we will do a physical, take vitals, test reflexes and perform functional strength testing. We also do a postural analysis and then the chiropractor will review their findings.

Next, we will explain how we would treat your child, and of course, get your consent. We will let you know how your child can expect to feel after the visit and how many times they will need to come in based on what we’re seeing them for.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you adjust children?

Gently! We have an instrument called the Activator® which is very gentle. Also, we often adjust just using fingertips with children. The pressure is equivalent to what would be used to check the ripeness of a tomato.
What are the primary benefits of pediatric chiropractic care?

It can help improve your child’s immune system, allow them to grow properly, address sports injuries and so much more.
How is pediatric chiropractic care different at your practice?

Dr. DeGroat underwent specialized training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. She has advanced certifications in pediatric chiropractic and provides in-depth evaluations.

Assisting Moms-to-Be

Pregnant mom with ultrasound imagesPrenatal chiropractic care is extremely beneficial to the mother and her developing baby. Because pregnant women have hormones surging through their body things are becoming much more flexible throughout their spine. They are also carrying more weight which creates more loading on the spine which can cause increased pain and discomfort. Pregnant women often experience swelling; low and upper back pain, sciatica, nausea, pubic bone pain, headaches and more.

Through the adjustment, we’ll make sure that everything is aligned to ensure the pelvis is symmetrical, relieving any additional stress placed on the spine and low back. The adjustments create a balanced environment in the pelvis in preparation for labor.

What to Expect

Dr. DeGroat will check your ligaments and pelvis and find out if you have any digestive concerns or other changes to your health (e.g. gestational diabetes). She will ask how you are changing week to week and how your check-ups and ultrasounds are going. She also recommends exercise such as yoga to keep your body strong and balanced.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I come in?

During the first trimester, we may have you come in once or twice a month unless you’re having more symptoms that need to be addressed. As the pregnancy progresses though and your body changes more rapidly (particularly during the third trimester), we may have you come in once a week up until the time that you’re ready to give birth.
How are pregnant women adjusted at your practice?

We have tables that are tailored to pregnant patients. The key pieces on our drop tables give out so that the pregnant belly has enough room on the table. If the patient is lying face down, we use the drop table and a method called the Webster Technique, which is only specific to pregnant women. Dr. DeGroat is certified in this technique.

This method helps make sure the pelvis is straight and alleviates any tension or strain on the round ligaments and any pelvic dysfunction that could be shifting with the hormones. The Webster Technique also can help your baby get into the downward position closer to labor time.

Should I get adjusted after giving birth?

Yes, we recommend you come in 1-2 weeks after giving birth. As your body has experienced a lot of trauma we want to help ensure that you heal faster and your body returns to its pre-pregnancy state. We also recommend you bring your baby in to get checked so we can address any spinal misalignments that may have occurred during the birth process.
